She has been carving masks ever since she moved to Kyoto in 2019. Before her apprenticeship she studied fine arts at the Art Academy Duesseldorf. This background in the contemporary art field is for her the incentive of both - learning and carrying on a highly traditional craft and creating new forms.

After having received allowance by her master to work on her own, she does so receiving orders for masks not only in the Noh field but also in other traditional and contemporary perfomance art forms.
*Genpaku Kitazawa is the third son of Nyoi Kitazawa, also called Kitazawa Koun, who was very active as a Nohmask carver in the 60s in the the Kansai? region. Due to health issues Kitazawa Genpaku has resumed making masks by himself and concentrated on teaching in the last several years.
